A Round of Words in 80 Days

I’ve been in a little bit of a quandary with my writing. I’ve been wanting to do something, but not knowing what. After my blog last week about NaNoWriMo, I had made he decision not to take part this year, but I wasn’t really happy with this decision. Then, yesterday, as if by magic, I stumbled upon a link to ROW80 (A Round of Words in 80 days) as I browsed Twitter.

What the heck is ROW80?,I hear you cry. This post says it better than I could, but essentially you set your own writing goals over an eighty day period. These can be anything you like as long as they are measurable. Think of it as a customised NaNo.

So, without further ado, here are my goals.

 1.  I will write a minimum of 500 words fiction three days a week. I started a writing project earlier this year which ground to a halt as I worked on reworking my novel. I’m planning on picking this up again.

2.  I will blog once per week. As part of ROW80, I will be writing bi-weekly check-in posts (on Wednesdays and Sundays) but I will also aim to blog once a week aside from this.

3.  I will write a #Fridayflash at least twice per month. I was going to aim for every week, but this seems more realistic.

4.  I will submit one story per week. I’ve become really lax about this lately, and it’s something I really need to get on top of again.

Of course, this isn’t going to be easy, this is on top of my studies and mummy-duties, but (for now, at least) I’m confident I can meet these goals.

 Let the writing commence!

  1. Hi Emma,

Welcome to ROW80. It is a very supportive community and I’m sure you’ll find it helpful.

Nanowrimo can become a bugbear, especially if you are serious about your writing. Will it help? Will it hurt? Do you do it or are you already writing up a storm? I don’t know.

  2. Glad you decided to join up with ROW80! As a fellow mother, I appreciate how hard it can be to make time for writing with schooling homework, reading, keeping up with the house, sports activities…etc. Your goals sound realistic for your life, and we’ll all be wishing you success throughout this round! (Now…I could use a little of that success, too! Ha!) ~ Nadja

  3. Hi, Emma! I’m new to ROW80 too. I’ve done NaNoWriMo a few times in the past, and even won a few times, but… I really like the sound of this challenge better.

Good luck with your goals. You can accomplish them!

  4. Glad you found ROW80, Emma! Your goals sound reasonable and I wish you luck in accomplishing them. I think you’ll really like it in ROW80. This is my 2nd time in and we have a great group of supportive writers. See you around!

  5. Welcome to ROW80! Great goals and hey, ROW is the challenge that knows you have a life, so if school and mummy duties interfere (and having 4 daughters I know they do at times) feel free to adjust your goals as much as needed. You’ll find the other ROWers are a super group of people and very supportive through good and rough times.

All the best for the coming weeks, Emma 🙂

  6. Hi Emma. I’m glad you found us! I’m a first timer too =)

You said: “this seems more realistic” I’m all for keeping things realistic. After all, we gotta to be honest with ourselves.

    Good luck with your goals!
