Are You Having Enough Fun?

I often find myself complaining that I don’t get enough time for fun.  I always seem to be busy cooking, cleaning or taking care of the toddler to have any real fun.  But, what is fun?

It’s so easy to get bogged down in everyday tasks and worries, that we wouldn’t know fun if it jumped up and hit us in the face screaming “Hey, I’m fun.”

This year in my personal diary, I decided to write down five good things from each day.  Some days are easy – days out, birthdays  and the like are obviously fun.  Other days can seem impossible.

Forcing myself to stop and think about it,  I’ve realised that there is more fun and enjoyment in my life than I imagine.  Something as simple as clean bedding or enjoying a cup of coffee before the toddler wakes up are nice.  They might not be fun in the obvious sense, but they are pleasant and can really make a difference to my mood.

Since writing these daily lists, I’ve noticed things.  I don’t rush through life with my head down anymore.  Bad days are more bearable and good days are even better.

What are the small things that make you happy?

  1. My counsellor asks me that on a weekly basis and I never know what to say. But when I stop and think about it, it’s stuff like sweeping up leaves in the back garden on a nice day, or watching the squirrels playing in the park.
