B is for Better World Books

B is for books.  Better World Books, to be precise.

I only recently came across Better World Books, but I am suitably obsessed.  See, not only can you buy great and reasonably priced books via the website, you can also help the planet.  It sounds too good to be true, but it’s not.

It’s simple really; they take old books, that might otherwise be sent to a landfill, and sell them online. So far they have saved over 25 million books.   Money raised goes towards a number of charities including National Literacy Trust, READ, NALA and Room to Read which all help promote literacy both in the UK and overseas.

Thats not all, they also work hard to offset their carbon footprint.   For every tonne of carbon emissions they produce, one native British broad-leaved tree will be planted in Scotland.

See, incredible.  It really is a win/win situation.  What are you waiting for?

  1. I’d never heard of them before but that is a wonderful idea. I’m all for books and helping make the world better, so this is excellent. Thanks for posting about them for this blog challenge.
